"Helping adults, looking for a quality counselling service, to address their psychological symptoms and stress"
Session Duration
Initial Session (50 minutes, or 65 minutes by request) Initial appointments can be booked for the standard 50 minutes, or upon request, 65 minutes. The additional 15 minutes for the latter, will be charged at a pro-rata of the usual rate, e.g. an additional 25% for the extra 15 minutes. Ten minutes are allocated to note-taking, after the session.
Subsequent Sessions: 50 minutes in duration with 10 minutes allocated to note-taking, after the session.
How many sessions do I need?
The answer to this question varies and is dependent upon your needs.
Some clients' situations may only require a few sessions to help them get back-on-track or to address a specific stress.
There are also clients who just want to have a regular or occasional 'download' or debrief regarding general life stresses, so as to not feel that they are burdening their friends or family.
Then there are clients who have more long-standing problems or symptoms of trauma, which need at least 10 sessions.
I haven't seen a psychologist before. What do sessions look like?
Typically, it will take the first 1-2 sessions to learn about you and the situation that led you to book an appointment.
The Psychology Centre (Qld) psychologist will then develop a treatment plan, and usually in the second session, you will receive initial suggestions to help to start addressing your situation. As you progress, the treatment plan is adjusted accordingly, and different strategies implemented, which are tailored to your specific needs.
The above is only a general guide and will differ from one person to the next, e.g. grief counselling.
